With the [[Awast]]ian ship under fire from the pursuing [[3rd Winter]] fleet, [[Bemo]] went filching among the crew, finding several pills and nautical tools by reaching into pockets and intruding on sexual trysts in the cabins and swiping whatever was atop dressers. When a cannonball pierced the lower hull of the Awastian ship and it began to sink, the ever-benevolent [[Eithan]] attempted to save the ship from sinking by using [[Conceptual Translate]] to translate the broken planks back into their earlier form (unbroken planks), but translated too far in time, transforming the planks back into full trees, rending the entire hull and accelerating the ship’s demise. Using peanut butter to fuel his powers, Bemo made the party invisible so they could escape on a stolen life boat to [[Springville]]. On the voyage, as they passed by the 3rd Winter fleet, he blinded a young and idealistic 3rd Winter sailor by throwing a leech at his eye for no discernible reason. A display of wanton aggression. Upon arrival in Springville, Bemo shortly collapsed due to the digestive consequences of consuming tens of jars of peanut butter in a single day. Just inside the city, the party met a shaman who offered Pay-Later Directions on uncertain payment terms, and a memory recovery tycoon ([[Mayor Steve]]) who attempted to commission them to assassinate a young politician ([[Bartleby]]), which offer the ever-scrupulous [[Eithan]] persuaded the party to reject. Using the content of a love letter Bemo filched from the Awastian trade ship as a bargaining token with the charming young woman on shift as bank teller that evening, who it happens was in love with the author of the letter and unaware of his extracurriculars with other men during his sailing contracts, Bemo persuaded her to care about her job just long enough to make change for the party's gold so that the party could purchase tickets to board a train headed south to [[Sherman]]. On the train, the party learned from gossip that the [[Old Man]] they had in tow from [[3rd Winter]] was also actively hunted by the authorities of [[Palestan]], and that the captain of the ship they abandoned to sink ([[Captain Eddard]]) made it back to [[Awast]] by doggy paddling on a free plank, having survived his son and crew, and vowed to both genocide all of 3rd Winter and hunt down "a certain three souls" who he claimed to the interviewer would know who he was talking about, if the interviewer trusted him and printed the words as he had spoken them. To stock up on food to fuel their [[mushroom]] powers, the party left [[Old Man]] under a blanket in their private booth on the train (after declining his offer to transform into a covert extra arm or leg and siphon nutrients from their blood supply, as a subtle disguise) and went to the bistro car, where they encountered a long line, and a young charismatic politician ([[Bartleby]]), the same one the memory recovery tycoon ([[Mayor Steve]]) wanted them to assassinate, canvassing votes from those waiting in line.
