[[Bemo]], a shiphand, attempted, but failed, to persuade [[Captain Eddard]] to spare him walking the plank for failing to pay his gambling debt. This even though Bemo offered to save Eddard's son's life in exchange. Bemo “accidentally” knocked the gambler holding him at the plank into the ocean by pulling out his giant book of herbs (the gambler died on impact). Further, Bemo insisted he was the estranged son of a rich noble with access to large stores of gold. [[Eithan]] ate some of [[Old Man]]'s [[mushroom]]s which he had smuggled in his rectum and acquired the power to perform [[Conceptual Translate]], translating planks into trees and vice versa, and then unintentionally used this power, transforming a plank back into a tall oak, projecting splinters in all directions. Bemo heroically dove to save Captain Eddard's son from the explosion of splinters from Eithan’s first exercise of power. A pursuing fleet from [[3rd Winter]], tracking Yuzu and Eithan and Old Man, who they had helped escape instead of delivering to their clients, came into view firing canons, one of which killed the Captain’s medic. [[Yuzu]] also ate some of Old Man's mushrooms and gained the ability to translate a crossbow bolt into a larger crossbow bolt. Bemo attempted to pickpocket some mushrooms from Eithan, failed, then asked nicely and received one. Bemo gained the ability to modify the volume coefficient in the perspective of light of a cubic space with an edge within 10m of himself to zero for a limited duration of time. The party decided to cooperate with him and the three planned to take lifeboats and head out to fight the approaching 3rd Winter fleet using their new powers, to defend the Awastian ship which had saved them.
